do you listen to music when you play poker? why? what kind of music do you listen to while you play?

do you listen to music when you play poker? why? what kind of music do you listen to while you play?

personally, i don’t listen to music when i play live, because i find it more distracting than helpful, and i reckon it takes away some of my ability to extract information from my opponents…online is a different tale, because there is no audible information that can be gained from an opponent, but i want to hear from some people about listening to music…i know most people feel that it helps them relax, focus, etc., but do you ever feel that you might be losing some info by not being able to hear as well?

also, for those who do listen, do you listen specifically to a kind of music? and is there a particular reason(the fact that possibly you just like that kind of music does constitute a reason, no need for a complicated answer necessarily)
when i am playing online i listen to a mix of classic rock and some more relaxing and soothing music, i reckon the blend tempers my emotions, and besides that is the type of music i prefer anyway…i have a lot of billy joel, phil collins, elton john, hall and oates, and the eagles, plus some aerosmith and other stuff like that

Online, yup. I have a set playlist which consists mainly of Darkest Hour, The Mars Volta and Paramore, with a bit of Thursday, Sunny Day Real Estate, Boy Sets Fire and Converge. It’s a bit aggressive, most of this music, and that’s how I prefer to play, even though I’m not an aggressive person in general.

In live games, no, never. Same reason as you; I’m trying to pay attention to each small thing, and music would distract me.

I used to listen to music when I played live. I found trance techno to be soothing, the repetitive beats were just background, and it kept my emotions more under control. I quit bringing my iPod to games, though, when a friend pointed out that I had a music related tell. I went slightly with the beat, involuntarily “dancing”, but whenever I picked up a huge hand my dancing stopped. Luckily he caught it and clued me in. I still listen when I play online, but I’ll never bring a player to a live game again.

very excellent question

music is prob. dumb, during live play

online, i suppose it depends on the person

sometimes i play poker with music, but i reckon its not helpful…why? cuz i feel that play excellent poker requires a cool head, not affected by emotions stirred up by music, whatever they may be

First of all i want to say, listening to music in general whether it be live or online is probaly a terrible thought. Music can sometimes change your emotions and sometimes you will lose concentration.

Though, i do sometimes get bored and i turn on some music ! Woooooot. Mostly rap or rock. It gets me pumped up and rejuvanates me when im tired. Try it sometime!

Avemged Sevenfold
Disturbed
Eminem
50 Cent
Lamb of God
Immortal Technique
busta Rhymes
Cashis
Cassidy
D12
DJ Khaled
DMX
Dr.Dre
Evanescence

along with alot of other artists. Of course you might not like this music, so im not going to waste my time posting all of it. tell me if you like this stuff, and i will post more though.

Okay i just noticed your add details and that is some dull shit. But w/e man, w/e floats your boat i estimate!

I listen to music both when i play live and also when i play online. I will most times just have one ear-phone on so i can still hear what is going on at the table. I do agree with you that it can take away from information you might get at the table from some players, but i like to listen to music these days since i can do both pretty well. I reckon it helps pass the time when your getting a terrible run of junk and your not in any pots at all, and i can always turn my i-pod off when i come to a point everywhere i really need to reckon about my hand, and since 90% of the time you know what your going to do i don’t see having music on as a huge deal for me. As for the kind of music i listen to i like everything from rock to jay-z. If it sounds excellent i will place it in my i-pod.

Hey, besides predictable relaxing meditation music or scenery music, I’ve only found a OM mantra on youtube that had alpha waves in the mantra, though my friend had a casset that really gets you into deeper states of meditation, just listening to it a lone, so I was wondering if anyone has any music online, that I could use to meditate too, that has alpha waves, or even goes deeper than that in frequency. Just some really fantastic “deep” meditation music, open to all suggestions.

Also if it can’t be streamed on the internet, than if it’s really fantastic I’m willing to buy, only if it’s something that gets you deep when simply listening to it, type of CD. Though as far as everything else, the internet would be fantastic If I could find something tonight or tomorrow to meditate deeply on. Thanks!
