How do I put Napster songs on my Zune player?
by Jeff Hester
I have Napster and want to place my songs from there onto my Zune. Is there anyway to do that without having to subscribe to Zune and re hold tracks? Thanks everyone!
Answer by Randy The Jedi
Of course there is, once you download the Zune software upon its initial boot up the software will prompt you to select folders on your computer that it’s supposed to “monitor” for music. This earnings that Zune will add all of the music currently in that folder and will automatically add any music that is added to the folder. Assuming of course that music is a compatible format (.mp3, .wma, etc.).
You can more folders to monitor via settings in Zune.
You can also you the drag ‘n’ drop method, just drag the files into an open Zune window

When I try to record a song on Napster using Freecorder, it always comes out as the same volume.
I’ve tried turning the Napster volume up, the Freecorder volume up, increasing it to 192 kbit/s & turning my computer’s volume up but its always the same volume.
Thanks if you can help!

Can you turn the volume down?
This may seem like a weird question but if that has no effect the conundrum may maybe be with your sound card or computer. If that’s the case a computer tech would be the best person to see.
Do you have the same conundrum with volume with additional music you have which is not from Napster? Songs you’ve ripped from CD.
If you do then the conundrum is computer related rather than with the program.
Have you tried the “test input device settings” tab?
I haven’t got/never used the program but you might be able to increase the input level with it.
The 192 kbit/s you refer to is the mp3 compression ratio.
It has no effect on volume only the quality of the recording and it’s used to select the ratio to record to and has no effect post record. It’s also referred to as bitrate. The higher the bitrate the better quality the recording. A bitrate of 128 kbit/s is generally the preferred option as a trade off between file size and quality.
If the songs you you receive are transmitted/sent at a low level you will need a separate program to exchange the levels.
This is called “normalizing”. This brings each song up to the same maximum program level. Audacity has a function to normalize music.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Load a song, click, hold and drag to highlight the whole track then click normalize in the effects menu then export and save as an mp3 file.
Sometimes the same result can have different causes so it’s not possible to give an exact answer. Fault result is a process of abolition so I’ve tried to list the all the possibles I can reckon of.
