Who thinks that top40 music will start having advertising in the lyrics and music videos?
We don’t pay for public television, but we do because we have to sit through the advertisements, now that downloading has become so widespread, with this new massive audience of consumers who refuse to pay for music, isn’t it only a matter of time before advertising becomes the main source of income for all the corporate record marks?

Rappers have had songs with brand references in them for years. And there was that Abercrombie and Fitch song by some boy band. I don’t know if there is direct collusion between mark and advertisers but it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that this is going on.

It won’t happen. The Kinks’ song “Lola” had to be re-recorded because the first line said, “You drink champagne and it tastes just like Coca-Cola.” It was redone to say CHERRY cola. Now, what if “corporate aid” had left that line intact — and a station that was sponsored by Pepsi refused to play it?
I reckon tours will continue to have corporate sponsors, but I do not see individual songs nor record marks (most of which are owned by giant corporations anyway) going that route.

back in the late 80`s a band called sigue sigue sputnik unrestricted an album they sold advertising space between the tracks not many companies took up the offer so they had to make their own fake commercials in the end allthough there is 2 or 3 real ones ( the hair spray stuff studio line from laureal life one)
