Random question, but I might as well ask. What are the differences between pixies and fairies?

Normally, the two get blended collectively in folklore, but there must be some defining differences. Call it a bit of research at an ungodly hour. Every small bit helps!

Answer by pablood92
pixies are fiction. fairies are real.

Answer by Magus (wizard trainee)
The term fairy (or faerie) is a general term used for nature beings. General earnings it covers a lot of additional beings.
A pixie, on the additional hand, is a specific nature life which is normally illustrated or shown as miniature female beings with delicate wings (that of a butterfly or a dragonfly).
In a sense, a pixie is a fairy but not all fairies are pixies.

“Fairy” is the more generic term that encompasses all the different types. A pixie is one of the specific types of fairy. Don’t question why I know that, lol.

A fairy, or faerie, is a spirit or supernatural life that is found in the legends, folklore, and mythology of many different cultures. They are generally creature like in their appearance and have supernatural abilities such as the ability to glide, cast spells and to influence or forecast the future. Even if in modern culture they are often depicted as young, sometimes winged, females of small stature, they originally were of a much different image: tall, angelic beings and small, wizened trolls life some of the commonly mentioned fay. The small, gauzy-winged fairies that are commonly depicted today did not appear until the 1800s.

Pixies are mythical creatures of English folklore, considered to be particularly concentrated in the areas around Devon and Cornwall, signifying some Celtic origin for the belief and name. In regional dialect, these prankish small folk are sometimes referred to as piskies/piskeys or the small public. They are usually depicted as wingless, with pointed ears, and often wearing a green outfit and pointed hat. Sometimes their eyes are described as life pointed upwards at the temple ends.
