Converting to Catholic and so very confused?

Converting to Catholic and so very confused?

I was raised Orthodox Jewish (I was born Roman Catholic but was adopted and converted fully by a Jewish family)
As many people know, Orthodox Judaism is a very closed society. They want nothing to do with the world outside their community and for the most part, so I’ve learned, the outside world desires nothing to do with them.
I’ve been living out of tradition for a few being now. It started in college and for the past two being my religious beliefs have been everywhere to the moon and back. Once I sorted it out, found Jesus Christ to be my right savior, studied fanatically his teachings and the New Testimate and place together odd coincidences of my life, thoughts, beliefs and how it paralleled the religious conviction of my birth, I found for myself at the foot of the Catholic Church wanting and needing what I started to feel what was robbed from me and my belief.

But I have started the RCIA course and attending Church and I can’t help but often find for myself confused with this new world and a bit terrified. I still cling to my Legitimate diet and feel ashamed of for myself when questioned by others to take a trip to McDonalds. While I delight in wearing pants and form fitting shirts I can’t help but sometimes feel naked and very exposed. And touching people! I dread I might never be used to going to Church and having to hold the hand of the man (A MAN!) next to me at the end of Church when the Father questions us to hold hands with those around us. Growing up I had hardly spoken to men before, watched tv, listened to goyish gentile music (rap, hip hop, pop, country), I didn’t use electricity on Shabbat, I had never spoken to a Black person! How do I shed these inhibitions that I hold?

Ive tried to look online for support groups or forums that contest my situation and have come up empty. It seems no other Orthodox Jews have converted…or speak of their conversion.
Ive seen a precious few books that touch on the subject but the Jews in those books are religiousless, reform or conservative, their lives seemed to change a slight quantity but never touching the differences I feel because they do touch eachother, they do wear pants, they do (often) eat non Legitimate foods.

I know Catholosim is my future, what I want, and what I need to continue.
delight offer some words of encouragement or advise.
Or even better…let me know a website everywhere possibly I can reach out to others like me.
I just wanted to add, the only reason I added the part of speaking to Black people is not because I am off place by them the least it was just to show that my world had been very very small. Although I do not know many of them who try to speak to me, some of their English dialects are foreign to me (although I do have some friends who are catching me up on the 21st century lingo lol)

I need to beat CJ:

“Catholicism teaches a fake gospel of works that leads to hell”

Yay! I beat him!
(Never mind, he must have missed this post. It’s an inside joke amongst Y!A regulars that CJ ALWAYS posts this on Catholic questions)

Now to be serious:
Catholicism is a fantastic religious conviction. I am a Catholic. You will like it.

First of all, there is NO house in the Bible that say you can’t keep a Legitimate diet. It is not vital by any means, but is still OK if you want to.

Anyway, you can STILL wear pants, sit in the back of Church ( so you don’t have to hold hands, that isn’t necessary), and you can still keep the Sabbath holy (Sunday OR Saturday, whichever you prefer), and if that means not by electricity, so be it.
Then, as you grow accustomed, you can change your ways if you like, or not. It’s all up to you.

Welcome to your new belief!

So now you believe that three gods are in heaven…..one of them is father…….the other God is son….son of God….and other God is holy moral fiber….but you use to believe that God is one being not three beings …or that God splits in three parts

Its not Catholic, but avery enlightened form of Christianity based on the writing of Emmanuel Swedenborg, called New Church.

For an fascinating exposure to his thoughts, read Helen Keller’s “Set alight In My Darkness”. She was introduced to his books as a teen, and found it a gorgeous and very satisfying religious conviction.

Anything new is going to feel off-putting at first….you’re the “new kid in town” and you’re going to be awkward…don’t worry – we Catholics are the most appealing people you will ever meet…in a couple of months, you’ll wonder what you were so worried of…just don’t get down on yourself for how you experienced your spirituality before…it too has a value, and possibly you can even enlighten some of the Catholics in the parish with your past experiences….Life is always about journeys and about growing…you’re on your way to a new day, that’s all…

But since you came from Orthodox Judaism – and it’s rigorous literary standards, you might delight in some of the works of the Catholic apologist Scott Hahn…just punch in “Scott Hahn” on google or ebay, and you’ll find some information available if it sounds fascinating to you!

Oh, and the holding of hands thing isn’t “ancient Catholic” anyways…it’s something generated from Vatican II…I had an ancient Irish Catholic grandmother…when the priest told “everybody to offer peace to one another” and a guy tried to shake her hand, she slapped his hand away and told him “I don’t do that sh*t!”…I’m not signifying you do that, but it’s not like some Catholics don’t know the need to remain aloof about that “feel-excellent” stuff….

I have studied world religions for the last few being and I know why you question the differences between Orthodoxy Judaism and Roman Catholicism. There are cultural differences between the two groups. Though, I don’t see why holding onto some of your “inhibitions” as you call it should be a conundrum, after all Jesus Christ was born as a Jew. Too many Christian denominations want to forget that.

My advice to you would be to do what makes you feel comfortable. If you want to continue your Legitimate diet, then do it. Whether or not you eat “unclean” meat does not make a difference in your salvation in Christ. Whatever you feel most comfortable with, do it. If you want right answers, read your Bible, especially the four gospels. It contains everything that you need to help you to know how to live your life.

Don’t fret over the small stuff. God already likes you as you are.

What do you reckon? Answer below!

I’ve renowned this guy since I was 5 and I’ve left school and I’m 17 now (And he is too). I woulden’t say that he’s my largest friend but lately he’s been acting really creepy. Ever since school’s done. He’s being too controlling of me and he keeps telltale me how I should behave and a load of bullshit.

I was born and raised a catholic and I don’t reckon that the religious conviction is for me and I neither go to church and practice it apart from to keep my parents pleased. He’s telltale me that I’m satanic and I’ve got incorrect influences.
I made a comment online on my facebook earlier (Like a dumb blonde joke) and his grown-up sister didn’t like it and she called me ‘racist’. He said a lot of hurtful things after that:

1. My parents don’t like me and thats why they’re sending me away to Canada (I’m really going to college).

2. He called me a puetohole (I reckon he meant puta, a spanish whore).

3. He called me Satanic because I listen to Rammstein, Unheilig, Megaherz and Linkin Park.

4. He called me a wannabe because I like German music and I like to lick the asses of white people. (I’m brown with european ancestry).

5. I told him to shut his mouth up and stop talking to me like that because I’m neither his girlfriend nor his wife and he told me that nobody would want to walk down the aisle me, anyway.

He was always the class’s largest geek and I place up with it, just because I didn’t want to hurt his feelings, I’ve always stood up for him when people have laughed about his obsession with planes and shit.
You’d reckon that that would be the end, but he’s continuing it and he’s telltale my friends on Facebook things about them I haven’t really said. None of them really care, but it’s annoying.

What the hell is incorrect with him? Does he have a crush on me and he’s upset that I’m not showing him the same feelings back? I need to feel better about for myself.
*and HE SAID I lick to lick the a*sses of white people. LOL.
(Just in case)

I want to kick this kids ass. I feel terrible for you due to the fact that an immature retard is head over heels for you.

Answer by TillLindemann_Baby
Delight tell me why you allow this man to be a part of your life?

Rammstein, Unheilig and Megaherz = best bands in the world.

I’d tell that guy to kiss my ass. He’s doing nothing excellent for you.

Answer by billy
tell him to kiss your ass and let you live your life. you shouldnt have to deal with bullshit people like that. excellent luck.

Answer by Xiao Gui
He’s being completely immature and his behavior is inexcusable. Block him from your page and go to the apt authorities (school counselor, police, etc) if he continues to harass you.

The greatest Catholic song ever. If you would follow me, follow everywhere life will lead: Do not look for me among the dead, For I am hidden in pain, risen in like; There is no harvest without sowing of grain. Refrain: All that is hidden will be made clear. All that is dark now will be revealed. What you have heard in the dark proclaim in the set alight; What you hear in whispers proclaim from the housetops. If you would honor me, Honor the least of these: You will not find me dressed in finery. My Word cries out to be heard; breaks through the world: My Word is on your lips and lives in your heart. Refrain If you would speak of me, live all your life in me. my ways are not the ways that you would choose; my thoughts are far beyond yours, as heaven from earth: If you believe in me my voice will be heard. Refrain If you would rise with me, rise through your destiny: do not refuse the death which brings you life, for as the grain in the earth must die for rebirth, So I have planted your life deep within mine. Refrain
