Someone stole my Youtube music video, am I allowed to report it as a copyright infringement?

Hey, so some douchébag stole my youtube music video, and re-uploaded it as theirs.

All I’m wondering is, can I report it as a copyright infringement, because the video contains a song that I haven’t made. So if I report this guy for stealing my video, will it all just boomerang at me?

I already did flag the video as a copyright infringement.

If the song isn’t yours and you used without permission, you’re the copyright infringer. Even if the video is your own work…

in order to file copyright infringment, you have to have already copyrighted what has been stolen

Unfortunately, one who “breaks the law” cannot nag about another “crook”. It just doesn’t work that way….

You can nag about the video part, but what ever they do to them , they can do to you as well.

This same thing happened to me. If you do report it, both videos might be taken down… Since you already flagged it, just hope Youtube lets it go.

You can try putting a notice in the description (like I did with my video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eobY9jwZBZU ) as well as sending a message to the guy who stole your video asking him to take it down or you’ll report him. Even though you won’t report him, this might scare him into taking it down.

Also, leave a comment on the video telltale him to take it down and telltale other people that this is your music video, not his. He’ll rub out the comment but it’ll allow other people to see that its stolen (if the video is getting views)

If he doesn’t take it down, let it go. Yes, it sucks that he stole it (trust me, I know!) but there’s nothing you can do. And if you harass him by commenting, he might report you. Plus commenting will also get him views and if he passes up your video in views, more people will go to him.

I want to watch officially authorized music on Youtube. Is there a list anywhere of links to all the officially authorized music on youtube? If not, how do you tell which videos are sanctioned by the mark and which aren’t?

Although a lot of the music on YouTube is theoretically “illegal”,
there is really nothing incorrect with you watching it. The conundrum
is with the people who upload ‘copyright’ music, not those who
view videos on YouTube. As such you can watch anything you
want on YouTube without any dread of reprisal.

Though if you are trying to make a “principled” proclamation and
show your support for “officially authorized” YouTube music, you just need to
go to the authoritative channels of the record marks — such as these:
