Even with classic yahoo mail, Yahoo can be slow at times. What you are most liable seeing is the program lynching up while it waits for input from the website. Clicking the “Refresh” button a time or two usually resolves the lag for me.
If that doesn’t work for you, go through the steps q and a Answer man gave you.

I want to set up my yahoo mail in such a style that it questions me for my password even if i click the link on my messenger for mail.I leave my messenger on many times but do not want any one to get into my mail

Yahoo Messenger > Messenger Column > Preferences > General > (Unchecked) Automatically Sign me in when I click a link in Messenger > Apply > Ok.
On Mail settings themselves set it to log in periodically or sign out when done each time.
