My Google Tech Talk

ABSTRACT
Many of the fascinating challenges in computer science, nanotechnology, and synthetic ecology entail the construction of complicated systems. As these systems transcend human comprehension, will we continue to design them or will we increasingly evolve them? As we design for evolvability, the locus of learning shifts from the artifacts themselves to the process that made them. There is no mathematical shortcut for the decomposition of a neural network or genetic program, no way to "reverse evolve" with the ease that we can reverse engineer the artifacts of chose design. The beauty of compounding iterative algorithms (evolution, fractals, organic growth, art) derives from their irreducibility.
Google itself is a complicated system that seeks to unendingly innovate. Leadership in complicated organizations shifts from management setting to a wisdom of crowds. The role of upper management is to tune the parameters of communication. Leaders can embrace a process that promotes innovation with emergent predictability more than they can hope to dictate the product of innovation itself.
Innovation is critical to economic growth, progress, and the fate of the planet, yet it seems so unsystematic. While innovation may appear inscrutable at the atomic level, patterns emerge in the aggregate nonetheless. A critical pattern, spanning centuries, is that the pace of innovation is unendingly accelerating, and it is exogenous to the economy. Rather, it is the combinatorial explosion of possible innovation-pairings that makes economic growth.

(more on the dichotomy of design and evolutionary search, organizational optimization, and innovation)
I arranged the talk to overlap with a SFI brain spa @ Google. Some quotation marks from that event (without attribution per Chatham House rule):
"Unlimited power limits intellectual parsimony."
"With machine learning, we are making electronic savants. They are pleased in a high-dimensional space. They have no desire to reduce. What we want is electronic Keplers that can recognize the ellipse, not savants that can force fit a heliocentric model."
"The target of evolution can't be more complicated than the selection pressure itself. If you can come up with the selection pressure, you might as well design it."
"I don't reckon there is any natural process that is incompressible. It's not unsystematic."
[I disagree with the premise of those last two quotation marks]
so i was transferring something from my friend through google talk and its 700mb and it took only half an hour to tranfer.
then i turned around and sent the exact same file to my cousin and its taking about 3 hours. what is it thats causing this differencel
i heard downlaoding other files like limewire could produce this but she closed all her other downloads
also shes by vista and im by xp.
could that be the produce of why its taking so long? if not what could be ??
Answer by emilystartsfires
It doubtless has something to do with the encryption. When you send something, you never send it like it is. Lots of weird, below-the-surface things happen. Liable Vista is having difficulty decoding the XP encryption. Next time, zip it and send it via e-mail.

individual PC specs will also have an impact of the reduced performence..
Even if you sent the same 700mb file again, it may take longer than half n hour or quicker due to many reasons..
The main thing is they got it;)
Answer by fretless
This can be caused by a digit of reasons:
a) Providers. If you want something to be transfered quick, then the sender AND the receiver must have an adequate internet tie and a conundrum free line. Sometimes in your providers’ rush hour you might have a conundrum.
b) Computers. What tie do you use? Is it ethernet or wireless? Wireless can be slow sometimes. Also ethernet cards vary in capacity.
c) Viruses. Some exploits ‘eat’ your bandwidth. This means that they use your speed in order to spread all over.
So assuming you don’t have any conundrum (except from the scenario everywhere you exchange files during rush hours), your cousin should check with her provider and her tie type. A virus scan would also be helpful.
Answer by Denny -
there’re at least hundreds of reason why.
whatever the reasons… im was not supposed to be used to send such large files.
try pando.com
or few dozens other file sending services

Google Gets the Go-Ahead on ITA Acquisition
We've discussed the Google/ITA deal numerous times over the last, oh, year. There's been plenty to talk about; after all, the fusion itself is huge news, and the massive anti-trust investigation, as well as the back-and-forth swings of that battle, have certainly been of note. For the time being, though, our discussion of ITA will liable come to an [...] Check out the SEO Tools guide at Search …
