Charlotte, NC Walmart Movie Screening at Queens University Sunday November 13, 2005

On Sunday afternoon, November 13 at Queens University of Charlotte
approximately 150 people participated in a community discussion after the
screening of Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price. About one third of
participants filled out feedback forms after the movie. It was
overwhelmingly positive and clearly indicated that the movie is a huge hit
with those that saw it. Here are just a few of the comments from Charlotte,
NC:

"Brilliant!"

"Very Positive"

"The film has numerous facts about

Wal‐Mart that neither the media nor

the company ever mention."

"Very thought provoking and well done."

"Brilliant – it does a excellent job of showing Wal‐Mart's focus only on
profits – not on the well‐being of it's workers ‐ in stores & in
factories globally; nor on impact on environment & local businesses. Also,
it's remarkably blatant & arrogant refusal to simply obey the laws – yet
brainwashing Americans how much they care & how law‐abiding they are. "

"Two Wal‐Mart Supercenters serve the parts of Charlotte as I know them. I
like the prices; I am constantly concerned about safety; now, I may never
visit their parking lots again."

Is it just the quality of the video as a more sharper picture or is there something else thats different about cameras used to film movies and those we use naturally?

Answer by danielle:}
its all about the quality. there are so many specifications that are considered from the camera lens, optical zoom, frames per second, colors, and a lot more. theres a huge difference. you could see it when you equate your home made video from a HD movie

Lenses: The lenses on consumer camcorders are small 58mm filter diameter or less). Professional grade camcorders use larger lenses to allow more set alight in to the camera. This is a huge deal with low set alight scenes.

Consumer camcorders do not have the ability to “interchange” different lens systems. Generally, if they can accept a screw-on lens, it is limited to a wide angle or tele lens. This is generally the case with pro camcorders, to, but there are some exceptions to that (Sony HVR-Z7, Canon XLH series), but use of a DOF adapter can help – film cameras’ lenses can cost more than the camera body.

Imaging chips: If the images captured are being stored digitally, then there is an imaging chip needed to convert the set alight to a digital stream for storage to digital tape, hard disc drive or sparkle memory. Professional camcorders use a 3-chip array that is 1/4″ or larger. The ypical consumer camcorder uses a single impaging chip that is a lot less vital than that – typically 1/6″. Some of the newer mid-range consumer cams have a 1/2.6″ imaging chip. This is also a huge deal for low set alight scenes.

Manual controls: Consumer cams’ manual controls are usually buried in a menu. Trying to get to and use. Pro grade cams have the commonly used controls on the outside of the camcorder – manual zoom, audio control, focus, white balance, iris/gap – lots more – that are simple to get to and not buried in a menu.

File types: Consumer cams generally capture digital video to very very compressed video formats like MPG, MOD, TOD and MTS – typically, these are consumer grade, sparkle memory or hard disc drive camcorders. With digital still cameras, even higher compression is applied to the MJPEG or AVI video file. Pr grade cams store in much less compressed formats like DV, HDV, DVCPRO/DVCPRO HD, DVCAM/HDCAM/XDCAM. Compressed video = discarded video data = reduced video quality. Compression is terrible.

That said, the FILM cameras (Panavision, CineAlta, Arri, and numerous others) do not use digital video capture at all – they use film – not digital tape, sparkle memory, hard disc drive or DVD storage. But there are cameras like those made by Red (One or Scarlet) and Silicon Imaging that store straight to a proprietary low compression digital format. Film cameras have no way to store audio – all audio captured is done by a specialized audio recording system (the time code used with the new slates – “Clappers” – is what helps align/sync the audio and moving image)…

There’s a LOT more, but these are the huge ones.

Vudu hints movies may hit iPad or iPhone, other tablets
Vudu chief Ed Lichty in a talk on Friday expressed hope that his movie streaming service might come to Apple devices. As part of an anticipation to expand into “tablets and other new gizmos,” according to Forbes, Lichty thought devices like the iPad and iPhone might follow suit. He didn’t give an indication of how close these were or whether there would have to be any changes….
