Do you think paying half price for used books is too much?

I have a nice used bookstore and my books are priced half price which is the standard rate for used bookstores. My books are in brilliant condition. Do you reckon that half price is asking too much? What do you pay? If you own a used bookstore, what do you charge? Are customer’s not export your nice, half priced books because they reckon they are too high? I would appreciate your comments.

No i reckon half price is quite reasonable, as long as they are in really excellent condition :)

I reckon that if the book is yet in excellent condition, half price is more than acceptable. Few things are as pleasantly nostalgic as a used bookstore.

I have a used bookstore near everywhere I live and I go there quite evenly. Like your’s, my bookstore sells all newly unrestricted books for half price. Sometimes I wonder if it is too much but then I just remind for myself that it’s better than full price, right? I mean, even if it isn’t a new book or in a fantastic condition, at least you’re getting a really excellent deal.

I’d pay half price for a nice used book. I typically don’t buy used from Amazon because I don’t want to pay shipping, but prefer used if I’m export from brick-and-mortar because of the positive impact on the environment.

Do you have a lot of traffic through the store, but not a lot of buys? If you don’t have a lot of traffic, that may be the source of your problems, not the price of your books.

i have only been in a used book store once, and i cant say for all the books but prices i was looking at were between £1 – £3 for the more renowned books i.e. chocolat half price isnt a terrible price to charge for books, just cant have half price crosswise the whole range as some are so common you can get them loads cheaper elsewhere and some are uncommon so you could pay alot more else everywhere.
I generally buy my used books from play.com as i can find lots of ones i like for £2 free p&p

I’ve chose to get rid of some of my ancient books that I won’t read anymore and also some cd’s and video games. I was wondering if anyone else has sold their books to Half Price Books. If so, how much did they pay you for them??? I’ve been to their website and they said it all depends on condition, supply and demand. But I was just wondering how much cash in general they give you for about 35-40 books. Does it depend on whether or not they are hardback or paperback? And also, do they pay a reasonable quantity for CD’s and Gamecube video games? ALL feedback is HIGHLY appreciated. Thanks so much.

I will buy all of the video games, cd’s, and dvd’s that you don’t want. I am starting a used game business and I need some inventory. Send me a list of what you have and give me a price. GameTrader@zoomshare.com
