He uses Mars bars to fuel his war horses.

Answer by Greek, Coptic, & Bible Forensic
None at all. Mars candy was started by a family named Mars. No relation to the Latin god.

Answer by COA
There is no connection. The Mars bar was named after the Mars family, who are well-known for their chocolate confections. Forrest Mars is credited with the Mars bar and his father, truthful, is well-known for the Milky Way bar. The Mars bar was first introduced in the UK. The only similarity between the candy and the word Mars is that the name is always in red on the wrapper, like it may maybe be symbolic of the red planet, but that may be a coincidence. Btw, the surname Mars is of English origin and is a topographical name for someone who lived by or in a marsh or fen, deriving from the Ancient English “mersc” meaning “marsh”.

This is something damn near every English teacher in America does and it bugs the crap outta me.

Ares and Mars are not the same guy. They are two gods from VERY different cultures who had similar domains of influence. Saying that Mars is just “Ares’ Roman Name” is like saying LeBron James is just Michael Jordan’s Miami name.

And the Mars bar has absolutely nothing to do with the Roman god of War and Regiment, additional than it shares a name. Not “named after”, just shares a name.
