Is an 18 on the ACT ok to get into a good college like Case Western Reserve University?

I plot to major in biology and pre-medicine i want to be an obstetrician but my overall G.P.A is only 3.26 and i only scored an 18 on the ACT exam and i can’t retake it because by the time i get the scores back Universities wll have already made their decisions so please let me know of 18 is ok so i can rest at ease, thank you!

I would take it again just to be on the safe side. Try checking the college website and admission requirements to get into the school. If you’re looking for an academic scholarship, unfortunately 18 isn’t going to be high enough, but maybe for admissions. Keep taking it, because every time you take it, the simpler it will get. I’m not going to lie – an18 is not a excellent score, and probably will not help you get into Case Western. I would any not submit that score (if you have an SAT to submit instead) or else I would make sure that the rest of my application rocks – beef up your essay, get extra recs, and make sure that you really enthusiasm on that extra stuff like volunteer work and NHS.

Question a college counselor at your school if there is a way that s/he in his/her recommendation can address your low test score, or if s/he can help you address it in one of your essays.

If you don’t have the application to make up for low score, don’t fret too much. Apply anyway. Maybe you’ll be accepted, maybe you’ll be wait-listed – public on waitlists do get in sometimes – and maybe you’ll be second-hand. The last two are not the end of the world and should not be the end of your pursuit of Case Western or a comparable university. Your grades are excellent, and you’re ambitious, so don’t let a first-time rejection slow you down.

Instead, take a year to work your ass off at your community community college. Get excellent grades. Take at least 24 credit hours; after that, you will no longer be evaluated based upon your high school record (at most universities; check Case’s requirements for transfer students to be sure), which earnings that Universities will no longer care about your ACT score or your high school GPA. If it’s a viable option to you, and you don’t reckon that you’ll become too overwhelmed, see about taking an honors class or two. Most community colleges have honors programs, and participating will help you to stand out.

Also, on the side, devote yourself to one or two activities that will let you 1.) get to know a superintendent or coach who will be able to write you a recommendation later; 2.) give you an opportunity to take a leadership role or have the freedom to manage yourself; 3.) will last at least an entire semester, if not longer. Excellent options are committed, fixed volunteer gigs, a commitment to a sports team, or student government.

Anyway, I hope you get into Case. If you don’t, remember that you can apply again as a transfer student after completing a few classes at the community community college while also participating in an activity that will show that you have drive, leadership and/or self-directive capacity, and responsibility. Try to take at least one course over the summer at your community community college, because the quicker you have college credits and grades under your belt, the quicker you can apply for transfer reputation.

Excellent luck!

How do you like it there? What are you studying? What were your grades/act/sat scores like that got accepted into this school? I’m a sophomore in high school and I reckon it would be a excellent school for me. My GPA is pretty excellent, but I need to work on my participation. I haven’t been doing so excellent lately, but that’s a different tale, hopefully I’ll improve. But anyways, please answer the questions above, give any advice, etc.

~thanks in advance

I visited there and it was nice. But, Cleveland has a terrible reputation. Case Western is located in University Circle, which is a one-mile radius circle that contains multiple institutions, so it’s in a nice place. It is mostly focused on math, science, engineering. One of the most well loved majors is biomedical engineering. If you want to do that then it would be a excellent choice.
I applied Early Action and got deferred.
