The difference between Yahoo 360 and the new Yahoo profile is what, exactly?

The difference between Yahoo 360 and the new Yahoo profile is what, exactly? What does the new profile offer that would make me start using it?

Both services have a social-networking focus, which you can choose to participate in or not. The Yahoo! 360 beta service is closing on July 13, 2009. The Yahoo! Profile is an upgrade of the ancient Yahoo! Members profile and is an ongoing project. In the past, Yahoo focused its social-networking goals primarily into one service – Yahoo! 360. Yahoo! 360 has been stagnant since October 2007 (at minimum) – glitches abound in initially working features, technical support was halted, and there were no new features added to keep up with technological advances.

Now, Yahoo is increasing social-networking outward among many of its services (http://everything.yahoo.com ), with the Yahoo! Profile life a centralized hub. The Yahoo! Profile automatically is emotionally involved to every Yahoo account (as it was before) with initiation options. Where there were links to Yahoo! 360 across Yahoo! services, there will be links to the Yahoo! Profile instead. Updates about member activities can be broadcast throughout services (like Yahoo! Mail) and the Y!Profile. There is a blog feature and there are applications (http://apps.yahoo.com ). The Yahoo! Profile is an intregal part of the company’s positively new “Open Strategy” (http://developer.yahoo.net/blog/archives/2008/04/introducing_the_1.html ).

Whether the features of Yahoo! Profile will make you want to start using it is solely up to you.

For persons who don’t have Yahoo! 360 and want to check it out, here is a screenshot. I have about 80 invites left, so if you want one send me a message.

IMO it is better than friendster or myspace, and it will be extra nifty if they choose to integrate it with flickr!

I have a Yahoo 360 sites that I want to place on the tool bar. And i have already place my groups on it. Can putting you yahoo 360 site be place on the tool bar?

There isn’t a pre-made Y!360 button for the Yahoo! Toolbar anymore. You can try to make one via the “Your Own Button 1 &2″ options in the “Search and Navigation” section when using the “Add/Edit Buttons” feature.

Additional than that, you can bookmark innumerable 360 sites for the toolbar that comes with your browser.

If you use Firefox, see http://mozilla.gunnars.net/firefox_bookmarks_tutorial.html .

If you use I.E. just drag the URL from the Address bar to your Favorites bar. See http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/ie7_toolbar.mspx for a visual.
