How to switch back to normal sleeping hours?

How to switch back to normal sleeping hours?

When my friend changed from day shift to night shift she changed very easily, no problems at all, she said it was as if she lived in the additional hemisphere and had persons hours normally all her life. That was 5 months ago. Two weeks ago she was thinking of changing back to day shift. But they said they were out of day shift jobs so she quit the job wanting something else. Anyway she’s having a lot of problems getting back to normal. Now I haven’t seen her (we don’t live close, she’s like 1200miles/1900km away but in the same time zone. She’s far north, I’m far south. I know her personally, she went to the north years ago.) but this is what she says. She wakes up at noon or a bit later and spends the rest of the day, and at night when she wants to sleep at 10 she can’t, keeps getting restless and watches movies and episodes of tv series both on her dvds and online on similar websites like youtube, listens to music, browses the internet, paces around her flat, reads, and so on. Whenever she tries sleeping again she can’t. She stays awake in bed and gets restless again. Anyway she finally sleeps at like 5 or 6 am. Then won’t get up until noon or as late as 2 pm. It’s the same schedule she had when she had the night shift. She doesn’t really have any additional friends she can question, she’s pretty much only has me and some random acquaintancess she doesn’t really talk to. And the additional additional person she questioned told her to take a sleeping pill.. She also isn’t really in touch with family, she fell out with them-that’s one reason she went years ago because of their nagging and treating her like a baby. So really I’m the only one she really talks to. Anyway I told her to stop browsing the internet and watching stuff and to just listen to soft and cool instrumental music (not loud or loud/soft stuff she’s been listening to like symphonies/concertos or her pop/rock songs) or mediation music and well, she says she despises that stuff and that it gets her nerves. I’m not sure what else to suggest. What can you suggest?

it is really hard, ive been trying to do so,but u see, like if you wanna start the ancient sleeping hours, you need to to it small by small i reckon, like if you wanna start sleeping 3 hours b4 the time that you are right now,you need to reduce the time 1 hour every night ,then it would be eaasy,
but at first it is really fraustrating, lol, cause you cant sleep hour earlier,
so you know itcan get really anoying

I worked the “burial ground shift” for 17 years. When I went back to working days, I had an dreadful time adjusting. The 1st business is to stay off the computer/internet at night. The flickering of the screen affects melatonin levels and sends a message to the brain that it is still daylight. How many of us are up at 2am doing “just one business” on the computer :-) ?

If your friend is serious about getting her days back she may maybe try what I did. I took a 1mg (3mg made me feel groggy the next day) of Melatonin (available over the counter) and went to bed at 10pm. I set up the alarm for 7am and drank a can of Jolt Cola to get me going in the morning.

The vital business is to have something to get up at 7am for. If she is currently unemployed she might look into an early bird, free, inexpensive exercise program at the Y or community center. Anything to get out of the house; even if it is going to the store to buy a newspaper!

But, it sounds like your friend might be depressed. If her “social community” was her co-workers at her night job and she doesn’t have anyone to hang out with where she lives, she might not see any reason to get out of bed.

You may maybe go online and look for volunteer, free classes, job training opportunities, etc. in the city which your friend lives. Then point your friend in that direction. If she suggests no interest, then you may maybe acknowledge that it is her “adult choice” but suggest that it sounds like a excellent opportunity to “get out of the house and meet new public” and just because “she goes and participates in something doesn’t mean she has to marry it.”

Utimately, it is her “adult choice” and as much as you like her, try not to make it your conundrum.

In the UK we would probably call them ancient school or ancient skool rave or hardcore. The sound of 1991. Here’s a couple of excellent example:
