I need an "all in one" media solution (tv/internet,radio/harddrive/dvd-cd player) !!!?
First, let me say that I have VERY little knowledge of computer technology so I don’t know all the proper lingo for what I’m looking for. I’m not even sure if a specific product exists, or if there is a way I can custom create it with multiple devices.
I would like to know if there is any product or multiple products that could serve as an ‘all in one’ media/computer center that is capable of doing ALL of these things:
In my mind, I’m imagining a hard-drive/mainframe/central unit (or something?) that:
1) connects to the internet (i already have a wireless router)
2) connects to my TV (with capability of downloading movies to watch on TV- i just have regular tv – nothing fancy)
3) has a DVD/CD player (so i can play movies or listen to cds on tv)
4) can be wirelessly accessed by all the laptops in the house (so when i change a doc on laptop, it changes it on central device too)
5) can be wirelessly accessed outside of the home (if i’m out of town and need access to my files, i’d like to access the central device)
6) listen to internet radio (listen to pandora, itunes, etc)
7) store my video and music files And, last but not least, I’d like to be able to set up speakers in my kitchen, living room, and bedroom that can wirelessly ‘access’ the central device to listen to songs anywhere in the house. Heck, maybe even add a wireless speaker on the back deck! (ideally, i’m thinking i could listen to one song in the kitchen and another song in the bedroom).
Oh, and of course, I want this all really really cheap. Yes, I’m asking for a lot!
Any ideas?
btw- please please please remember that i don’t understand tech-language so speak s-l-o-w-l-y in your answers!
thanks so much, i’m excited to get some answers!
thank you for the answer…sorry, i don’t know how to respond to the answer below, so i’ll add more details:
i don’t have a pc, only 2 laptops and want to purchase a hard-drive or whatever? that directly connects to the TV as a dvd/player (doesn’t need to record) and can also be accessed via my laptops.
i want to spend as little as possible, 300 would be awesome!

That sounds like a cool system to build.
1. That’s no problem since most PCs have the ability to connect to the internet
2. If I read you correctly, you’ll need a TV tuner card for your PC, like these: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=47&name=TV-Tuners-Video-Devices
3. No problem either, do you require that you burn CD/DVDs?
4. No problem either, you just need to configure the home network and turn on file sharing
5. IIRC, if you use Windows, there’s Remote Deskop Connection, comes with it.
6. No problem, you can go to those any time
7. No problem, just have plenty of hard drive space (like 500GB or more which is plenty, considering video and music take up a huge part of the hard drive)
8. I haven’t tried it before, but there are wireless speakers being sold. Just be wary that they can be expensive (like $ 80+ per speaker set)
BTW, what’s your budget? $ 300? $ 500?

I cant watch videos online, be it youtube, yahoo or google, nor can i listen to music on pandora, it started not working on thursday evening and i downloads flash player version 10 and it still does play, also my brother suggested that i restore my computer but it doesn’t want to restore, am lost and annoyed
Answer by Nightrider
It is obvious you have virus from the downloads and the virus has disabled the restore.
Your video driver needs reinstalling.
Before you do that, do a complete scan using a good virus checker. Try this one, it is free: www.avg.com
Good luck.

In your wild college days, the words “ROAD TRIP!” meant squeezing your friends into the back of a compact car and hitting the road. You survived on a steady diet of fast food burgers and Jolt Cola, and spent your time arguing about which songs to play, and whether Kerouac’s “Dharma Bums” or “On the Road” best captured your adventure.
